Vaccines are available for children and adults.<\/div>\n<div>\u2022The Centers for Disease Control and\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/script\/main\/art.asp?articlekey=10265\">Prevention<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(CDC) recommends that you get the pneumococcal pneumonia vaccine if you are in any of the following groups:<\/div>\n<div>\u2022You are 65 years old or older<\/div>\n<div>\u2022You have a serious long-term health problem such as\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/script\/main\/art.asp?articlekey=87976\">heart disease<\/a><\/span>, sickle cell disease,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/script\/main\/art.asp?articlekey=8709\">alcoholism<\/a><\/span>, lung disease (not including<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/script\/main\/art.asp?articlekey=284\">asthma<\/a><\/span>),\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/script\/main\/art.asp?articlekey=343\">diabetes<\/a><\/span>, or liver\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/script\/main\/art.asp?articlekey=322\">cirrhosis<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u2022Your resistance to infection is lowered due to<\/div>\n<div>\u2013HIV\/AIDS<\/div>\n<div>\u2013Lymphoma,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/script\/main\/art.asp?articlekey=404\">leukemia<\/a><\/span>, or other cancers<\/div>\n<div>\u2013<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/script\/main\/art.asp?articlekey=13931\">Cancer<\/a><\/span>\u00a0treatment with X-rays or medicines<\/div>\n<div>\u2013Treatment with long-term steroid medicines<\/div>\n<div>\u2013Bone marrow or organ transplant<\/div>\n<div>\u2013<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/script\/main\/art.asp?articlekey=10419\">Kidney failure<\/a><\/span>\u00a0or kidney syndrome<\/div>\n<div>\u2013Damaged spleen or no spleen<\/div>\n<div>\u2022You are an Alaskan Native or from certain Native American populations<\/div>\n<div>\u2022CDC also recommends that all babies and children younger than 59 months old get the pneumococcal vaccine.
